Sachiko Suga Hotchkiss passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024, at the age of 86.

Born in Fukuoka, Japan, in 1938, Sachiko overcame the challenges of post-war rural Japan with determination and grace. She earned a degree in education from Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo before immigrating to the United States, where she pursued further studies in education at San Francisco State University. Shortly thereafter, she met and married Dr. John Hotchkiss.

An accomplished educator, Sachiko dedicated decades to teaching at Hoshu-ko Japanese School in San Francisco. She was also an entrepreneur, hypnotherapist, and nurse, committed throughout her life to education, personal growth, and the care of others.

Beyond her professional achievements, Sachiko was known for her love of life and broad range of interests. She was an avid golfer, dancer, aspiring comedian, and active member of Toastmasters International, admired for her intelligence and humor. A devoted traveler, she explored the world while maintaining a deep connection to her Japanese heritage, returning annually to Japan to honor her ancestors.

Sachiko was preceded in death by her daughter, Nyree Hotchkiss, and son, Jeff Hotchkiss. She is survived by her daughters, Mishi Hotchkiss and Leslie Hotchkiss; granddaughters, Cali Gallardo and Emily Hotchkiss; and grandsons, Austin Hotchkiss and Atlas Grogan-Hotchkiss.
